Miami University Coal Week

Elisa Young

is on the front lines of the coal wars. Whether in her own backyard, or across the country assisting others in their home battle, Elisa has been an invaluable resource to the movement. Her courage, generosity and drive have inspired many on their own environmental awakening.

The Bees

are from the Beehive Design Collective which is a group of artists from Machias, Maine who work on large scale art projects that deal with issues of social justice. They are completing their latest poster, The True Cost of Coal, a huge illustration of Appalachia's rough history with the resource and those that control it.

A Clean Future

is a future where we have energy security, where there is no worry over where our energy comes from, and no worries over the effects of our use of energy.

Our Meigs Trip

was one of the most eye opening experiences in any of our lives. Elisa Young hosted us and gave us a 2 day tour of her town and the near regions of West Virginia. What we saw and heard, we couldn't believe, but it left us only wanting to do what ever we needed to do change to things.

Miami University Coal Week

Coal Week is a week of education and on-campus events sponsored by Green Oxford aimed at bringing attention to Miami's connection to dirty coal. Groups from across campus and individual from across the country have come together to help make our voice heard.

Did you know that Miami has a coal plant on campus? Did you know that all of our energy comes from coal? Chances are your home runs on coal too. Do you know where this coal comes from?

Coal Week will have a number of events that will help to show students and community members the dangers and true cost of coal. Promoting sustainability and securing our resource independence will help Miami step into the 21st century and promote our place as one of the leaders in a clean, green future.

Coal week is a Green Oxford Project, and is cosponsored by the Social Action Center.
